Heart attacks are one of the leading causes of death in the world. It happens when the flow of oxygen-rich blood to a section of the heart muscle becomes blocked and the heart can't get oxygen. When blood flow isn't restored quickly, the section of the heart muscle begins to die.
Heart attacks do not always feel the same in women as it does in men. Before the tragedy, our body will send signals that one must not ignore.
Here are the warning signs every woman must look into when your body will have an impending heart attack.
1. Chest Pain
Even though women may experience different symptoms than men, chest pain is still this the most common warning sign in both. It is manifested by squeezing, fullness, and a feeling of pressure and discomfort in the chest. The pain can be anywhere not just only on the left side but in the whole area.
2. Pain in your back, arm, neck or jaw
This type of pain is more common in women. These signs may confuse women as they expect that heart attack is focused on the chest or left arm, not in the back or jaw. The pain can be sudden, gradual or progressive. It can even wake you up if you are asleep.
3. Stomach Pain
Sometimes stomach pain related to heart attack confuses people that it is a sign of heartburn, poisoning, flu or stomach ulcer. Women who experience severe abdominal pressure described it like "an elephant sitting on your stomach."
4. Cold Sweat
Cold sweat is another common symptom to women who are having a heart attack. It may seem to be stress-related sweating than the regular perspiration from exercising or heat temperatures. If you feel this unusual sign, better consult your doctor.
5. Shortness of Breath or Dizziness
Troubled or difficulty breathing for no apparent reason, could signal a heart attack especially if you are experiencing other symptoms. Women described it like as if they had run a marathon, even though they didn't move."
6. Increased Fatigue
Women having heart attacks always feel extremely tired even they haven't moved much and cannot perform simple actions. They often complain tiredness in the chest.
NOTE: Not everyone experiences all those symptoms. However, if you are already having a chest discomfort or difficulty in breathing, it would be better to seek professional help immediately.
