Archeologists continue to search for fossils and artifacts that can serve as proof during the ancient civilizations. What is more exciting is that lucky people who discover something really rare and valuable can make them instant millionaires!
A metal detectorist, identified as Derek McLennan found a remarkable10th-century artifact in a field of a church land in the south west of Scotland.
The largest haul of Vikings discovery was found by the detectorist after painstakingly searching the unidentified area in Dumfries and Galloway for more than a year.
The haul of treasure consists of more than a hundred artifacts, many of which are historically unique. It includes silver bracelets, brooches and ingots, a gold ring, early medieval cross, decorative glass beads, a gold bird-shaped pin, crystals, decorated silver gilt cup, jewelries, potteries and even ancient coins.
According to experts, this medieval cross is highly unusual which McLennan believes may represent the four Gospels -- Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
The Vikings hoard includes the largest silver pot from the Carolingian dynasty that could be up to 1,200 years old.
The Queen's and Lord Treasurer's Remembrancer, David Harvie, one of the people responsible for the treasures found within the country said that the Vikings hoard is one of the most important finds ever discovered in Scotland.
Around 100 artifacts found my McLennan would be allocated to the National Museums of Scotland provided that they would pay him. The collections will be preserved and displayed to the public to witness their beauty.
The Scotland National Museum must give McLennan a 2 million dollars worth of money for this precious findings.
According to McLennan, he said that they felt honored and privileged to have saved this internationally significant treasure.
The spokeswoman of the Scottish Archaeological Finds Allocation Panel, Dr. Evelyn Silber also expressed his gratitude to the finder for reporting the stunning artifacts. As it would be a great help for everyone to understand more about our history.
